ＮＥＸＣＯ東日本東北支社仙台工事事務所は、今月27日に４車線化開通が予定されている三陸沿岸道路・仙塩道路（仙台港北ＩＣ～利府中ＩＣ間）（延長７．８㌔）で、先行していた下り線の車線内工事が完了したことから、５日午後１時40分、仙台港北ＩＣ～利府ＪＣＴ間（延長４．６㌔）下り線を２車線で開放した。
この区間はこれまで、対面通行区間だったが、今回の開放により、混雑緩和が期待される。なお、上下線が完成する27日までは、下り線の最高速度は70㌔／時に規制される。
上り線では引き続き、仙台港北ＩＣ～利府中ＩＣ間の 27日の４車線化開通を目指し、舗装工事や標識工事、施設工事を進めるとともに、多賀城ＩＣの整備も進めている。
