ＮＥＸＣＯ西日本中国支社が進めていた岡山自動車道・有漢ＩＣ～北房ＪＣＴ間（延長約８・４㌔）の４車線化工事のうち、北房ＪＣＴ付近の有漢トンネルを含む延長約３・５㌔が10日午後３時に完成した。これにより、下り線は５．１㌔区間が２車線で走行できるようになった。同支社では引き続き、下り線の残る１・２㌔区間と、上り線の一部区間について２０２２年度の完成を目指す。
岡山自動車道・岡山ＪＣＴ～北房ＪＣＴ間（延長43・９㌔）は１９９７年３月15日に暫定２車線で開通。南側の岡山ＪＣＴ～賀陽ＩＣ間（延長22・６㌔）は２０１０年11月26日にすでに４車線化が完成している。
中央部の賀陽ＩＣ～有漢ＩＣ間（延長12・９㌔）については今年３月26日に賀陽ＩＣ付近の２㌔が４車線化。５月28日には高梁ＳＡ以北の２・７㌔も４車線化した。未事業化区間となっていた約４・５㌔区間について今年３月30日、国土交通省が４車線化の事業許可を出したことで、岡山道は全線の４車線化が確定した。
岡山道の４車線化により、低速車両の影響による速度低下、事故や工事、除雪作業などによる通行止めで発生する渋滞の解消や、大規模災害時、早期の災害復旧による地域経済の維持なども期待される。
