東名高速道路と第三京浜道路をつなぐ、高速神奈川７号横浜北西線が22日に開通した。当日の開通式典は、新型コロナウィルス対策で中止となったが、午後４時に予定通り開通し、次々と一般車両の通行が始まった。
横浜北西線は、横浜北線、第三京浜・横浜港北ＪＣＴから東名高速・横浜青葉ＪＣＴを結ぶ片側２車線、延長約７・１㌔の自動車専用道路で、このうち４・１㌔がトンネルとなる。
今回の開通により、横浜北線と一体となって、東名高速と新横浜都心、横浜港、羽田空港が直結し、ネットワークが強化する。東名高速から横浜港までの所要時間は、保土ケ谷バイパスを経由した場合の約40～60分程度から、約20分程度に短縮し、アクセス性が改善する。また、保土ヶ谷バイパスなどの交通渋滞の改善、沿線地域の生活環境改善などの効果が期待される。
横浜北西線の開通に先立ち、横浜北西トンネル内で、車両事故と車両火災が発生した場合を想定した合同防災訓練が10日、実施された。首都高グループ、神奈川県警高速道路交通警察隊、横浜市消防局、日本自動車連盟など６機関が参加し、各種防災設備稼働のもと、発災時に重要となる関係機関との確実な相互連携を確認し合った。
